Mystics & Scientists: Grounding and Flourishing in an Era of Complexity, Chaos and Transformation

April 11, 2025 @ 9:00 am (BST) - April 13, 2025 @ 6:30 pm (BST)

Join the Scientific & Medical Network online for an inspiring and thought-provoking gathering at the 2025 Mystics and Scientists Conference. For over 45 years, this annual event has fostered a creative dialogue between rational scientific inquiry and intuitive mystical wisdom. This year’s theme—Grounding and Flourishing in an Era of Complexity, Chaos and Transformation—could not be more timely. Together, we will explore how to navigate these turbulent times, reconnect with our spiritual essence, and co-create a more balanced world.

Featuring a remarkable lineup of speakers, this conference offers a space to reflect, learn, and engage with ideas that challenge, uplift, and inspire. From discussions on complexity theory and consciousness to contemplative practices and systemic transformation, the event is an opportunity to deepen your understanding of the forces shaping our world and our role within them.

Highlights include a pre-conference session with a thought-provoking screening on Thursday 10th of the film An Ecology of Mind, chaired by David Lorimer, exploring systems thinking and ecological wisdom. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Nora Bateson and others.

On Friday 11th, Joan Walton chairs an afternoon session which includes Margaret Wheatley and David Lorimer discussing how we can stay grounded and act wisely in times of crisis, emphasizing the importance of inner stillness and spiritual resilience. Later, Neil Theise will introduce complexity theory as a framework for understanding consciousness and the interconnected nature of the universe, drawing insights from both science and contemplative traditions.

Alef Trust director Jessica Bockler chairs a session on Sunday, opening with an inStudiesiousness Studieteractive workshop led by Vivien Leung on deep listening and using creative expression to explore how we engage with complexity. Rosie Bell will discuss the role of psychological and cultural transformation in systemic change, offering insights from The System Within. To close, Harrie Salman will reflect on the historical roots of modern individualism and the urgent need for a shift towards a more cooperative and balanced world order.

The conference will conclude with a dialogue and Q&A session featuring all speakers, followed by closing remarks from David Lorimer.
