One of the deeply enriching aspects of Alef Trust’s MSc in Consciousness, Spirituality & Transpersonal Psychology is the inclusion of creative expression within an academic programme of study. The programme’s approach to whole-person development maintains a strong scholarly and research-oriented foundation, whilst also encouraging students to explore and articulate their learning through a variety of expressive forms.

Karina Weisman

This is especially relevant in the Learning through Integrative Practice module taken in the first year of the MSc. Students actively explore what nurtures and supports their ongoing development and growth through personalised practices that encompass somatic, emotional, spiritual, mental, and interpersonal dimensions. These dimensions open the door to forms of knowing that go beyond the analytical and conceptual, embracing the symbolic, the intuitive, and the imaginal. Visual artworks, including the paintings, drawings, and mandalas shared here, often weave into both the integrative practices and creative synthesis at the end of the module.

Transpersonal research methods that can be applied in the MSc’s final year dissertation also open the possibilities of engaging with multiple intelligences. Over the years, participants have included poetry, creative narrative, and multimedia pieces, including short films and digital art both from research participants and in their own sense-making process and creative syntheses, as well as symbolic representations that map psychological and spiritual processes.

Tim White

These expressions are not presented as standalone art but are woven into learning journals, reflective assignments, and dissertation projects to explore their themes in ways that integrate mind, body, and spirit.

¨As we continue to develop the programme, this dimension of creative and intuitive expression remains central to our ethos bridging the academic and the soulful, and reflecting the richness of transpersonal education.¨ – Alef Trust

The Alef Trust MSc curriculum further supports this exploration of creativity through a dedicated option course in Creativity and Transformation, which sits within the Applied Transformative Psychology module. Overarchingly, the programme’s emphasis on experiential learning encourages students to draw deeply from their own lived experiences, fostering authenticity, imagination, and holistic understanding.
